Wine area - Colchagua Valley
Colchagua is the main wine-growing area of Chile. It is located about 150 km from Santiago de Chile, and is nestled between the Andes mountain range and the Coastal Mountain Range that runs parallel to the Pacific Ocean, which cools the vines and allows optimal ripening of the grapes. The vineyards, located on terraces and plains that fall from the mountains, are dominated by red varieties, such as Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Carménère, although the coastal vineyards are increasingly demonstrating plus the potential of white varieties such as Chardonnay and Sauvignon blanc.
