TASTING NOTES
ELABORATION
The Mission comes from centenary vines planted on farms with mainly sandy soils. After starting fermentation, alcoholic with wild yeasts in stainless steel tanks, the wine finishes fermenting and ages part of it in 500-litre French oak barrels; part in vats or pipes of 5,000 and 10,000 liters and part in jars of different capacities made with a percentage of the clay from Menade's own farms, a return to the more earthly origin. After a minimum aging of 8 months, La Misión is bottled and rests for at least two years.
CURIOSITIES
Menade has been the pioneer winery and the only one in the D.O. Rueda to be certified as Organic. We could well say that they have set a trend in the area.
For 35 years they have been making wine from centenary vineyards planted in Pollos, owned by the family, and almost from the beginning they could observe that this Verdejo had some different particularities from the rest of the vines, the Verdeja It was eight years ago when they acquired the family vineyard and decided to start grafting the entire vineyard of their estates with Verdeja, after a mass selection. Verdeja has distinctive morphological features, the grapes are smaller, the bunches are more oval and it is more resistant to diseases such as botrytis, due to its thick skin. The aromas are the expression of the authentic Verdejo, they present a greater rusticity, but also greater authenticity. Analytical parameters reveal higher acidities and more concentrated grapes. The search for authenticity, personality, the experience acquired over the years, the concern and the work to restore the natural spirit to viticulture have been the keys to Menade's philosophy from the beginning.
